The latest news about the Keweenaw Catholic Community
If you have never been baptized and find yourself attracted to the Catholic faith, we extend to you an invitation to explore the possibilities of becoming a member of the Roman Catholic Church. If you have been baptized in another Christian faith tradition, we offer the invitation to join in full communion with the Catholic Church. Or, perhaps you have already been baptized in the Catholic faith but have never received the sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation. Your invitation is to complete your sacraments of initiation. All of these invitations are to a new way of life, a way that draws one closer to God and to his people.
If you feel this invitation may be intended for you (or you know of another), ask us about how to go about responding to the invitation. Our Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which one can answer God’s invitation. Call the Parish Office (906-337-0810) for more information.
3rd Annual Keweenaw Catholic Community Marriage Celebration

The Keweenaw Catholic Community is holding its third annual Marriage Celebration on Friday, June 15th. The evening begins with Adoration at 5:30 p.m., a special Mass at 6:30 p.m. celebrating the Sacrament of Marriage, and a renewal of vows. A catered dinner with dancing will follow. All adult parishioners are welcome to attend – whether you are married, single or widowed. The tickets for the evening are $10.00 per person and are available through Religious Education Committee members or can be purchased through the Religious Education Office by June 11th.
Tickets are available for a Spaghetti Dinner & Bake Sale that will be held on Sunday, June 24th, from 1-4 p.m. in St. Anthony Hall at Sacred Heart Church to benefit the Lisa Holmstrom family. Proceeds will be used to help defray medical expenses. Tickets are $8 or $25 per family (mom, dad and the kids), children 6 & under free.
Tickets can be purchased by calling 337-0100-Ken Olkkonen or 337-3454-David King (please leave a message if no one answers).
The Keweenaw Catholic Community is seeking a Secretary/Receptionist to work 20 hours a week and provide secretarial & clerical support for the parish office. Interested candidates can pick up an application and job description from the parish office. Applications must be received by 12 noon on Thursday, May 17, 2012.
Sunday, April 29, 2012 the Keweenaw Catholic Community will be celebrating two events.
The first event is a 25th Anniversary Mass at Sacred Heart Church beginning at 11AM. On May 4, 1986 the current Sacred Heart Church building was dedicated and this Mass will recognize yet another milestone in the more than 140 years that Sacred Heart Parish has served the Catholics of Calumet-Laurium-Keweenaw as well as many visitors.
The second event will occur in the social hall at St. Paul the Apostle Church. Beginning at 12:30PM a dedication service and celebration with lunch & snacks will take place. The social hall will be re-named in memory of Fr. Wayne Marcotte who served as pastor at St. Paul the Apostle Church for many years and is deeply missed.
Come join us for the celebration!
Please check the Mass Schedule & Events Calendar for the most up to dated information on Masses for Holy Week. Please note that there will not be an Easter Sunday Mass at Our Lady of Peace Church in Ahmeek.
The pro-life movie "October Baby" opens this Friday, March 23rd nationwide, including at the Royal Cinema in Marquette (next to Econo Foods, just up the hill from U.S. 41). If you are able to see it opening weekend that would be great as we have been given to understand that box office receipts for a film on its opening weekend are very important to its overall success (and thus the length of time it remains in theaters).
Tickets for this movie are available through Life Outreach Center in Houghton by calling 482-8681.
You may be interested to know that "Ten-percent of all gross ticket proceeds will go toward the Every Life Is Beautiful Fund, which will help support frontline organizations helping women with crisis pregnancies, life-affirming adoption agencies and those caring for orphans."
